I just got my new boat yesterday…The vinyl dash and some of the compartment covers are weathered pretty bad…They have almost a tacky feel…I think the previous owner used a cleaning solution he shouldn’t have that broke the coating down on them. Anyway, I tried using a cleaning solution trying to get rid of the tacky feeling and it stripped the coating right off…So anyway, I talked to my dad about it and he suggested I repaint all the vinyl pieces in the boat which would be the two consoles, a couple compartments and the "oh sh**" handles on the boat. Has anyone ever done this? I’m sure you have to get a certain paint. My dad has an airplane and he said that he repainted the vinyl in it once but it’s been so long he doesn’t remember what the paint was called or anything.

Also would I have to completely remove the old coating or can I paint right over it?

Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks!
